That’s a question a lot of people ask me all the time when they find out that I play poker online. Where do you play? It’s a normal question to ask.

If you’re familiar with the online poker world in the US then you probably know about poker’s “Black Friday” when PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, and Absolute Poker/ Ultimate Bet were taken down by the DOJ. One day everyone was playing poker, the next day these sites were offline to everyone in the US. All the money they had on the site was locked on the site possibly lost forever.

Luckily, PokerStars paid out their players quickly. Full Tilt Poker only recently paid out their players almost 3 years later. As for the other poker sites that were shut down? Who knows what happened to that money. It’s still in limbo somewhere. Or it’s vanished. Crooks took it.

That’s why it’s really important to choose your online poker room wisely. I have been playing online poker ever since it first started online. Way before Moneymaker and any of his fame. I researched PokerStars back then and I went with them to start. I also went with Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker and I trusted those sites too. However, I felt the site with the best reputation was PokerStars by far. I trusted them with my money 100%. As it turns out my instincts were right on with PokerStars. Not so much with some of the others.

That’s why, in my opinion, one of the most important things for an online poker room is their reputation to pay out their players. If you’re not paying out your players in a timely fashion then how can you be trusted?

Is it Legal to play online poker in the US?

The answer to that question can be difficult to answer. It depends on your state’s laws for sure, but in many states there really isn’t any clear indication that online poker is illegal. If you’re really worried then you can ask a lawyer to help you decipher the laws in your state. If it was illegal wouldn’t you know about it by now? Most likely I would say yes you would have heard about it from someone.

In a couple states I have read that they have made changes to the laws to outline online poker. If you live in Kentucky, Washington or New York I would check your state laws again to be sure. Really I would recommend that you all check your state laws to be sure. You’re responsible for yourself. Do the homework and check your government website.

Where Can U.s.players Play Poker online, free

Let me put it in another way. I have never heard of anyone going to jail for playing online poker. Still, just because nobody has gone to jail for it doesn’t mean it’s legal where you live.

In my mind, it would seem to be a bit silly to send someone to jail for playing poker online from the privacy of their own home.

Of course if you live in Nevada, New Jersey or Delaware then you have regulated online poker that has been approved by the states. The difference with these other poker sites is that they aren’t regulated by the US government. They run in countries abroad somewhere away from the DOJ. They are legal running poker sites though.

Where can poker players in the US play online poker?

So you figured out it’s ok to play poker in your state, but you don’t know who to trust these days with your money. Where do you go? What poker sites that accept USA players is best these days? You can’t play at PokerStars anymore so who do you trust?

Here’s the list of sites that I trust the most for playing poker online in the US. The order is intentional with the top site being the most trustworthy to me personally. This is all from my experience with playing online poker.

1- Bovada

2- Black Chip Poker

3- Americas Cardroom

4- Carbon Poker

5- Aced Poker

Those are it. If I was going to play online poker in the US these would be my top choices. I feel that I will get paid from all of these sites. Although I don’t feel as confident with any of them as I did with PokerStars. However, The one that is closest to that feeling to me is with Bovada. It seems to me that they payout their players the fastest, and they seem to be honest with their business.
